By Allen Eskens
Joe Talbert, Jr. has never met his father. Most people have no desire to remember him. That is not going to stop Joe from shining the light into his family shadows to see what is really there.
This is not going to be easy. Lila, his relational constant needs him more than ever. Jeremy, Joe's autistic brother, still relies on Jeremy for support. And his mom, always a complicated companion, is still a burden with which he must reckon. Nope, digging into what happened to his dad is not going to be easy. Will it be worth it?
I think The Shadows We Hide is a great sequel to The Life We Bury. We find familiar characters, but we get to know them better. Eskens' writing is a delight. The story is "who done it" with a lively pace.
